Fantu’s Story

Fantu came from rural Ethiopia to Addis Ababa ten years ago with the hope of living a better life. Once she settled in Addis, she married her husband and had her first son. Her husband, Getachew, was a police officer and unfortunately died while he was on duty.

Fantu married again and had a daughter named Arsema, whom is now three years old. They quickly realized after birth that Arsema had disabilities and that she would require extra care. In response, Fantu’s husband left. Arsema cannot walk or talk, and hospitals have told Fantu that there is no treatment for her.

To cover the needs of her family, Fantu began fetching water for families for around $5 per month, but now that Arsema is 3 years old, carrying her on her back and working has become incredibly difficult.

Because of the generous support of Change Partners, we have been providing Fantu with a monthly supply of food for her and her family. She is extremely grateful, as she was desperately struggling to come up with food each month.

Thank you Change Partners for making this possible!
